Introduced with the Imperial Navy in 1940, the Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero was one of the most capable fighters in the world, earning an early-war kill-to-loss ratio of 12 to 1. By 1942, however, Allied technology had equaled the Zero, and, by 1943, it was largely surpassed in effectiveness by enemy fighters. Because the Japanese did not have a suitable replacement ready, however, it remained in service through 1945.
A Hobby Master replica of his warbird as it appeared before Japanese pilot Tadayoshi Koga was captured by the U.S. Navy in 1942-43, this newly tooled, 1/48 scale, die cast model features recessed panel lines, a rotating propeller, a detailed engine, an opening canopy, a well-appointed cockpit (including panel instrumentation and a removable pilot figure), a drop tank, authentic markings, optional-position landing gear, and a display stand. 10″ wingspan.
