Answering the call for General Curtis LeMay’s request for a “big bomber” shortly after World War II, the B-52 Stratofortress has since become a legend and remains in active service half a century after its 1955 introduction. The subsonic strategic bomber has the capability of carrying up to 70,000 pounds worth of weaponry and, though it has only dropped conventional bombs, it was built as a nuclear platform against the Soviets during the Cold War. More than 700 have been manufactured and today’s modern upgrades will likely allow the warbird to remain in the Air Force’s fleet through the 2040s.
Featuring an imposing 30″ wingspan, this 1/72 scale plastic kit of a B-52H Stratofortress comes with a trio of historic makings from the late 1970s and early 1980s including those for the 319th Bomb Wing with its Yosemite Sam tail art. It also features realistic radial engine fronts and a see-through canopy with a well-equipped interior. Assembly required. Skill level 4.
