The EF-105F was a two-seat electronic warfare variant of the Republic F-105 Thunderchief, developed by the United States Air Force in the mid-1960s. Based on the F-105F trainer, it retained the aircraft’s powerful engine, swept wings, and high-speed performance while adding specialized electronic systems. The second cockpit housed an electronic warfare officer responsible for monitoring radar signals, threat detection, and countermeasures. Externally similar to other Thunderchiefs, the EF-105F could carry a mix of fuel tanks, electronic pods, and weapons. Designed to operate in heavily defended airspace, it combined speed, payload capacity, and advanced electronics for its era. Though demanding to fly and maintain, the EF-105F demonstrated the growing importance of electronic warfare in modern air combat and influenced later dedicated support aircraft designs.
