An agreement to purchase 40 F-35A Lightning IIs to replace their aging F-4E Phantom IIs was made by the Republic of Korea in September, 2014. The first RoKAF aircraft started to come together in 2017 with an airframe scheduled for April of 2018. After completion the F-35A will go to Luke AFB for training.
