The most advanced jet ever designed, the F-35 Lightning II was finally introduced in July 2015. Its multiple delays have been as much a source of consternation as its overrun program cost, which has now exceeded $1.5 trillion. Its three variants include the “A” (conventional takeoff and landing), the “B” (short takeoff and vertical landing), and the as-of-yet unintroduced “C” (carrier-based). The stealth warplane will perform multiple roles for the Air Force, Marines, and Navy &#8212 including ground attack, aerial reconnaissance, and air defense missions &#8212 and it is also being exported.
Replicating an F-35B flown by the VMFA-211 “Wake Island Avengers” in 2017, this 1/72 scale, Hobby Master, die cast model features engraved panel lines, an opening canopy, a well-equipped cockpit (including a removable pilot figure and instrument panel), full weapons complement (including opening weapons bays), optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a mid-flight display stand. Measures approximately 8½” long with a 5¾” wingspan.
