Able to carry a wide assortment of lethal munitions, the F9F Panther was developed in the late 1940s and used extensively by both the U.S. Navy and Marines during the Korean War. The rugged aircraft was able to sustain heavy anti-aircraft fire and was well-liked by its pilots (not least of which because the cockpit was air-conditioned, a comfortable change from the scalding environment of piston-powered warbirds). More than 1,300 were manufactured and it saw service through the late 1960s.
Made by Hobby Master, this 1/48 scale, die cast model replicates an F9F-5 as it appeared with VF-153 stationed on the USS Princeton in 1953. It features engraved panel lines, an opening canopy, a well-appointed cockpit (with removable pilot figure and dashboard instrumentation), wing-tip fuel tanks, a detailed exhaust nozzle, authentic markings, optional-position landing gear, and a mid-flight display stand. Measures approximately 9½” long with a 9½” wingspan.
