IJN Battleship Yamato 1/1100 Die Cast Model

Features

  • Model is approximately 9.25″ long
  • Die cast metal construction with plastic components
  • Display stand included

The IJN Yamato was the largest and most powerful battleship ever built, commissioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1941. Weighing over 70,000 tons, it was armed with nine 18.1-inch guns, the largest naval artillery ever mounted on a warship. Designed to counter the growing naval power of the United States, the Yamato was a symbol of Japan’s naval ambition. It participated in several key operations during World War II, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf. However, its immense size and heavy armor proved a double-edged sword, as it was slower and less maneuverable than smaller vessels. The Yamato met its end on April 7, 1945, during Operation Ten-Go, a suicide mission to defend Okinawa. After a prolonged naval engagement, it was sunk by American aircraft, marking the end of an era for battleships. Despite its short service, the Yamato remains an enduring symbol of Japan’s wartime naval might.
