A Butterfly Bomb (or Sprengbombe Dickwandig 2 kg or SD2) was a German 2 kilogram anti-personnel. The luftwaffe used it not only as anti personal but mostly against trucks, gun positions, aircrafts, tents and every other thing that was not armoured. Each SD-2 contained 225 grams of TNT. They were generally lethal to anyone within a radius of 10 metres and could inflict serious shrapnel injuries as far away as 100 metres.
Messerschmitt Bf-110E was the first type of this aircraft to receive wing’s bomb racks, so the special adapters were produced to carry the SD-2 to be used at Eastern and African fronts. It had to be dropped while flying not higher than 25m above ground. A pair of adapters under each wing, each adapter carrying 24 SD-2 bombs, gave 96 bombs in total.
There were diffent types of these adapters. This Leadwarrior kit represents the type seen on board of Bf-110E-2, coded S9+GP, flown by Gunther Tonne in 1941 on Eastern front.
