The Spitfire, with all its numerous variants, was the most produced British aircraft of the entire war with more than 20,000 total units manufactured. By 1942, the Allies needed a fighter capable of competing with the Luftwaffe Fw 190, and previous iterations of the Spitfire were proving inadequate. The upgraded Mk. IX was introduced in that year &#8212 the second most produced Spitfire variant behind the Mk. V &#8212 and proved incredibly versatile.
This 1/48 scale, die cast, Hobby Master model &#8212 sporting authentic markings of a Spitfire IX that completed over 80 missions with multiple pilots by March 1945, when it was retired &#8212 features realistic panel lines, a rotating propeller, a glazed canopy that opens, a removable pilot figure, a well-equipped cockpit with detailed instrumentation, optional-position landing gear, and a stylish presentation stand.
