This officer is barking out orders over the din and roar of battle. Presumably he is telling his men to get down and take cover. He knows, without some return fire, he and his guys are sitting ducks. Luckily he carries the Thompson M1A1 submachine gun. The Thompson was rugged, reliable, and effective. It could throw 600 rounds down range in a minute and was well liked by all those fortunate enough to carry one. The Thompson’s reputation was furthered while in British service. Virtually every Royal Marine Commando unit used the M1A1. In Italy, the Jewish Brigade of the British 8th Army became furious when told they would have to turn in their Thompsons for STENs.
