On July 1, 1863, during the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Union Brig. Gen. John Buford laid out his small cavalry division on three ridges west of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in order to delay the advance of superior Confederate infantry forces and buy time for the arrival of Union infantrymen. The tactical decisions made by Buford played a key role in the battle, which, considered the war’s turning point, ended Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee’s invasion of the North.
Made by W. Britain, this amazingly detailed, 1/32 scale, metal figure of Gen. Buford – who, as commander of 1st Division, Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac, is credited with selecting the field of battle at Gettysburg – directing dismounted cavalrymen is historically accurate right down to the realistic headgear, authentic uniform insignia, and equipment. Painted by hand, it measures approximately 2¼” tall and arrives ready to display.
