Warren G. Harding (1865-1923) was the 29th president of the United States, serving from 1921 until his death in 1923. A Republican from Ohio, Harding promised a “return to normalcy” after World War I, focusing on economic growth, limited government, and national stability. His administration enacted pro-business policies, reduced taxes, and supported high tariffs. Harding was personally likable and popular during his lifetime, but his presidency was later marred by corruption scandals, most notably the Teapot Dome affair, which involved members of his administration. Despite his reputation suffering after his death, Harding helped guide the country through a postwar transition and expanded opportunities for African Americans and women in government. He died suddenly while traveling in California.
