The world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise was commissioned into the U.S. Navy fleet in 1962. It remained in service for fifty years, retiring in 2012 after a prolific career that included duty during the Vietnam War &#8212 deployed in 1965, engaging in combat first on December 2 when it launched aircraft against the Viet Cong near Bien Hoa City.
